Carved in luminescent Carrara marble this sculpture “Balance” encapsulates calmness and composure. She took thee months to hand carve in Piersanti, Italy. From a block of marble, I was able to discover her forms by removing unwanted stone. I literally found “Balance” in the stone, thinking all along how she had been waiting for eons of time to be released.

She is posed in a reaching position, an offering gesture with a conch shell clutched in both extended hands. The shell with a spiraled shape is a representation of infinity and the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth. Finally, she turns her gaze towards the right as if she is scanning the world around her, once encapsulated and now release

Balance is achieved through the careful distribution of visual weight, where harmony and the unexpected exist in quiet tension. Her femininity is poised at the edge of a rock ledge, suspended between softness and strength. The union of figure and stone amplifies their contrasting natures, arriving at a moment of perfect equilibrium.
